A robotic hip replacement is same as a conventional hip replacement. Your surgeon removes damaged tissue in your hip joint and replaces it with an artificial joint. The difference is that it’s done with assistance from a robotic arm or handheld robotic device.
Mako Robotic-Arm Assisted Total Hip replacement is a procedure designed for patients who suffer from the non-inflammatory or inflammatory degenerative joint disease of the hip. It provides surgeons with a personalized surgical plan based on a 3D model of your hip. This helps the surgeon focus on the removal of diseased bone, helps preserving healthy bone, and assists in positioning the implant based on your anatomy.
Before Surgery: It all begins with a CT scan of your hip joint that is used to generate a 3D virtual model of your unique anatomy. This virtual model is loaded into the Mako System software and is used to create your personalized pre-operative plan.
In the operating room: In the operating room, Doctor will use the Mako System to assist in performing your surgery based on your personalized pre-operative plan. When prepares the bone for the implant, he guides the robotic-arm within the predefined area and the Mako System helps him stay within the planned boundaries that were defined when the personalized pre-operative plan was created. The Mako System also allows to make adjustments to your plan during surgery as needed. In a laboratory study, Mako Technology demonstrated accurate placement of implants to a personalized surgical plan. This study also showed that Mako Total Hip replacement demonstrated soft tissue protection to the ligaments around the hip.
After surgery: After surgery, your doctor along with nurses and physical therapists will set goals with you to get you back on the move. They will closely monitor your condition and progress. He may review a post-operative x-ray of your new hip with you.
Mako Robotic Total Hip Replacement helps in ensuring:
