Hip replacement surgeries are carried out using a technique known as minimally invasive hip replacement. A smaller surgical cut is used. Less hip-supporting muscles are also severed or disconnected.
Any hip replacement procedure involves cutting the broken bone and removing it along with certain soft tissues. A smaller surgical incision is used during minimally invasive surgery, and fewer muscles around the hip are severed or detached. The posterior approach, which is more prevalent, and the anterior approach are the two main surgical approach techniques for total hip replacement (sometimes called the “mini-anterior approach” or “muscle-sparing hip replacement”).
